Mission

The MBML as a biomedical MD/PhD training program promotes scientific excellence. Selected, international students engage in cutting edge research projects investigating the physiology and pathobiology of the lung in the interface of basic sciences and clinical medicine over a period of 3 years.

Location

The MBML is based on Campus of the Justus-Liebig-University School of Medicine in Giessen, Germany. The existing structures provide an optimal basis for an extended, coordinated Graduate Program with the Albert-Einstein College of Medicine and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, both New York, USA. This Program, Signalling Mechanisms in Lung Physiology and Disease (SMLPD), is the first transatlantic biomedical Graduate Program funded by the DFG.

Organization

The education of the PhD students at the MBML plays an important role in the active networking of the interdisciplinary scientific community of the University of Giessen Lung Center (UGLC). The MBML Committee has passed statutes specifically regulating the admission, organization and quality control valuing the international standards of PhD education. A team of coordinators realizes them accordingly.
